5 steps to develop strengths of team members

I believe that every person has his own strengths and he may or may not be aware of them. In corporate world, it is the job of Managers / Leaders to identify the strengths of the employees and utilize them effectively for the growth of employees themselves and ultimately growth of the organization. Being a project manager (and also a Leader!), one of the most important tasks is to develop strengths of team members. On the basis of my experience, I would like to share my thoughts and few steps to achieve this.

The focus of ‘Career Planning’ is generally on job opportunities, respective education, degree & certifications or any professional courses. So, it mainly talks about how to get yourself busy in a specific job, considering current or future market demand, so that you earn well and meet your needs. Also, Career Planning is considered as one time activity either when we have to choose a course of specific education or after completion of graduation/degree. However, in the process of Career Planning, we do not consider most important factor – ‘Life’. You cannot separate your life from your career. If you are working in an esteem organization at a senior position and earning good salary, can you say that you are enjoying life? Is it the goal and right path of your life? Career must be aligned with Life to keep balance between professional and personal life at each stage of the age. It is not just one time task! Let’s touch base on what are the usual challenges we face at different stages of the age and probably how we can plan and handle them in a better way.

Do you have a balanced life?

Sometimes, I ask myself – throughout the entire day, do I spend even a minute for me? If I look at the schedule of my day, looks like I spend every single minute FOR somebody! Let that be my family, my kids, my wife or almost 9 to 10 hours for my office. Even when I am not working, I think about my work! That’s even worst… huh? I am sure this must be the case with almost everyone working in IT Services industry (at least) for years together. It may be true across the industries. Was the situation different when I was a kid? In fact, it was a different world altogether! So, what changed over the period of time? It triggers a discussion on balanced life.

The Path of Life

Hello Friend! When walking on the path of life, sometimes we take a pause, look behind and see all the turns, ups and downs, lows and highs, milestones, crossing of paths and you feel great about the journey so far! A smile on the face for what you have achieved!! You feel happy for all those moments that you enjoyed with your family and friends. You feel confident for beating all the hurdles and achieving what you wanted. You feel lucky to be with your loved ones and to get blessings of your parents. While looking behind, you also notice the mistakes you made and what you learned from those mistakes.
